Live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
And comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.
Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
Old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
From our souls.
We are weaned from our timidity
in the flush of love's light
We dare be brave
and suddenly we see
That love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free...

"I am not a mechanism, an assembly of various sections.
And it is not because the mechanism is working wrongly, that I am ill.
I am ill because of wounds to the soul, to the deep emotional self, and the wounds to the soul take a long, long time, only time can help
and patience and a certain difficult repentance
long, difficult repentance, realization of life's mistake, and the freeing oneself
from the endless repetition of the mistake
which mankind at large has chosen to sanctify."
- DH Lawrence, quoted by Robert Bly, in "The Maiden King"
This is the best book I have ever read on understanding the challenge of reuniting our masculine and feminine in these devastatingly fragmented times. It's called,
The Maiden King by Robert Bly and Marion Woodman
It came to me serendipitously as I was perusing Odyssey II's bookshelves for a sign. It is a road map home. It has already delivered me so many poetic moments of clarity that I am, wholeheartedly recommending it at only 42 pages deep!
This should be required reading for Life. Please find it at your local library or bookstore, read the 6 page intro and see what I mean.
Back in March I sent out a call for "a line" in the form of balmy music that speaks to mens' universal relationship with the ladies of the world (see "& Where Are Our Boys?" - Mar 10, 2008)...Thanks to all who commented and sent me their picks: Shameless Shorty, Tunji, Rae-j, Purple Zoe, Asani, and Arnaldo. Special shout out to my Soul Commune siblings who ran with this, keeping the discussion going for over a month and even reposting on their own sites and pages...
